Questions

Are these chess puzzles free?

Yes. Every puzzle on this site is free, with its answer. The Bible Chess app for iPhone has hundreds more, free to play.

Where do the puzzles come from?

Most are positions from real games played on Lichess, from its open puzzle database (CC0). Each solution has been checked move by move: there is exactly one winning first move.

What does mate in 2 mean?

The side to move can force checkmate in two moves, whatever the opponent does. Mate in 1 is a single move, mate in 3 takes three, and so on.

How should I use chess puzzles to improve?

Solve a few every day, start with the easy ones, and always read the answer, even when you got it right. Speed comes from seeing the same patterns again and again.
